The position is a 50% part time position to be filled as soon as possible, with a contract duration until 30.04.2027. Employment location will be Bonn or Berlin, Germany.

During emergencies that attract substantial fundraising and media attention, Welthungerhilfe must be ready to deploy at very short notice – not only with the Emergency Response Team (ERT) but also with a dedicated communications expert. This on-site presence ensures timely access to high-quality material to meet the diverse needs of the Marketing and Communications department during crises.

Embedded within the Communications Unit and reporting to the Head of Communications, this role contributes to enhancing the quality, effectiveness, timeliness, and relevance of Welthungerhilfe’s emergency responses.

During emergency operations, this position collaborates closely with the Emergency Crisis Group and the Crisis Support Coordinator, operating under the guidance of the ERT Response Lead on the ground.

Your responsibilities

Develop communication content related to WHH’s response in specific crises, highlighting the needs of the most vulnerable populations. This includes case studies, collecting quotes, photos and videos, media materials (including social media content), fact sheets, intranet updates, Q&As, and other materials linked to the humanitarian response.
Collect needs from the newsroom and gather information independently or in coordination with country offices.
Produce and edit images and short videos for various platforms, such as the homepage, social media, publications, and media statements.
Create concise texts for marketing and communication purposes, describing project work and humanitarian situations in operational regions.
Prepare talking points and briefings for WHH representatives at headquarters or country offices prior to interviews.
Provide interviews in coordination with the Communications Department, when required.
Stay informed about ongoing global crises, especially in the Global South and countries relevant to Welthungerhilfe’s operations.
Conduct research on thematic inquiries following crises, examining their impact on global issues.
Liaise with colleagues from Alliance2015 partner organizations to exchange information and communication materials.
Work closely with communication officers in country offices to produce necessary content.
Coordinate and ensure visibility and reporting requirements for private donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
Support and advise in the development of project proposals requiring communication expertise, and contribute to reporting for private and institutional donors by delivering photos, videos, quotes, and other materials.
Follow up on recommendations identified during learning exercises after major humanitarian crises, ensuring their completion and documentation.
Be available for deployment to crisis countries for up to 4 weeks, if required.

Your profile

A university/bachelor degree or completed training in marketing, journalism, politics or related disciplines
At least 3 years of experience in marketing and/or communications in the context of humanitarian disasters.
Background as a journalist with several years of experience or extensive experience as a press or media relations manager
Ability to produce texts for marketing and media reporting under tight deadlines
Good knowledge and experience in photography and videography for marketing purposes
Ability to work effectively under difficult circumstances and high time pressure
Ability to collaborate within an international team during crisis situations
Willingness and ability to travel worldwide on short notice (within 24 hours)
Ability to work in multicultural and multiethnic environments
You recognize the growing value of data in your field and are eager to build your awareness and skills to incorporate data-informed approaches into your work
Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries.
Fluent written and spoken German and English. Knowledge of French is an advantage
