eSIM instead of buying physical SIM cards

I’m planning to travel through a few European countries over the next couple of months and I’m considering switching to an eSIM instead of buying physical SIM cards in each country. How reliable is eSIM coverage compared to traditional SIM cards, especially in rural areas? Also, how easy is it to switch between different data plans if I move from one country to another? I’m curious about real-world experiences—are there common issues with activation, compatibility, or unexpected roaming charges that I should watch out for before making the switch?

I switched to an eSIM during a long trip around Europe last year, and overall it was pretty reliable. In cities and most towns, the coverage felt exactly the same as with a regular SIM because the eSIM still connects to local partner networks. In more rural areas the signal sometimes dropped to 3G or slower data, but honestly that’s something I’ve also experienced with physical SIM cards.Switching plans between countries was easier than I expected. Most apps let you activate a regional plan or add another country in a couple of taps. The only things to check beforehand are whether your phone fully supports eSIM and which networks the provider partners with. I found this discussion useful before my trip: www.reddit.com/r/…/best_travel_esim_for_dubai_2026_update
